Montana transgender lawmaker faces censure or expulsion

The Montana House of Representatives is planning to take action against transgender lawmaker Zooey Zephyr on Wednesday after ongoing controversy at the state capitol.

Zephyr posted a notice to her Twitter account Tuesday, saying she's been told there will be a motion to either censure or expel her.

I've also been told I'll get a chance to speak. I will do as I have always done—rise on behalf of my constituents, in defense of my community, & for democracy itself," she said in the tweet.

The notice adds that house galleries will be closed and that the public can watch the session on the legislature's website.

The session begins at 1 p.m.

Zephyr has been at the center of controversy after an incident last week when the House was debatingRepublican Gov. Greg Gianforte's proposed amendments to a measure banning gender-affirming care for minors. She toldlawmakers they would have “blood on their hands” if they voted for a bill banning gender-affirming care.

“I hope the next time there’s an invocation, when you bow your heads in prayer, you see the blood on your hands,” she said.

Zephyr says she won't apologize for the remark.
