Teamfight Tactics (TFT) will now support the use of Riot ID instead of Summoner Name.
When you opened your account in Riot Games, they asked you to choose Riot ID. This is the display name that you use in all the games published by Riot. Only in League of Legends, you could choose to have a different display name, separate from Riot ID. This is commonly known as Summoner Name.
Because Teamfight Tactics and League of Legends both share the same game client, you had to use the Summoner Name in TFT too. This is soon about to change as Riot is transitioning from Summoner Name to a more ‘unified’ Riot ID. They probably want the players to be known by a single name in all of their games, just like in VALORANT.
That said, Riot is transitioning to Riot ID for Teamfight Tactics as revealed on the PBE server. Thus, here is what we know so far.

Teamfight Tactics to support Riot ID
According to SkinSpotlights, Teamfight Tactics (TFT) is finally going to adopt Riot ID. So, you will no longer have to use the same name as you do in League of Legends.
You might have noticed how all the games published by Riot, other than LoL, have the same in-game name as the Riot ID. But TFT being in the same infrastructure as LoL meant that you could not have a different name there. But with the upcoming change, you won’t have to deal with the Summoner Name while in TFT.
Changing your display name in Teamfight Tactics
Summoner Name can be changed in the client by spending 1300 RP (Riot Points) or 13,900 BE (Blue Essence). As RP is acquired through payment, the only way to change your display name for free is to spend Blue Essence. But when Teamfight Tactics gets Riot ID support, you will have to wait for 30 days to change your name in the game. This takes away your liberty to change your on-screen name frequently.
I personally like the previous system though. Because BE is easily obtainable through missions, levelling up etc. Now if I choose a Riot ID that embarrasses me soon afterwards, I will have to wait one month in shame. Thank you, Rito!
Expected date of the update
Riot Games hasn’t said anything specifically regarding when this change will be active. But it is probably going to be deployed in patch 13.21, after it is tested in Teamfight Tactics PBE.
In conclusion, I think that having a single display name across all the games can be convenient. But some people might want to have the liberty to not wait for 30 days to change it.
